Chiropractic Adjustment

According to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) definition, chiropractic is “a health care profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on general health”. Chiropractic treatment procedures emphasize the manual techniques, including joint adjustment and/or manipulation, with a specific focus on subluxation, a loss of alignment in a joint or structure.

The basis of chiropractic approach to restoration and protection of health is the relationship between structure, specifically the spine and musculoskeletal system, and function, particularly as coordinated by the nervous system.

Post Isometric Relaxation (PIR)

Post-isometric relaxation, commonly known as PIR, is used by chiropractors, massage therapists and other trained specialists such as physical therapists. During a session, the therapist passively moves the involved muscle to the end of its length or resistance barrier. At this point, the patient should feel no pain and only a mild stretch, as if the slack has been taken out of their muscle. The patient then resists the stretch, pushing against the therapist’s hand in order to contract the involved muscle. This resistance should be at about 20 percent of the patient’s maximum strength and should last for only seven to 10 seconds. The patient then relaxes. Once the therapist feels the muscle release, she continues the stretch to its next barrier. The process is repeated three to five times, depending on the severity of the muscle spasm or joint restriction.

Trigger Point Massage

Trigger point therapy is a bodywork technique that involves the application of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. It may also be called myofascial (myo meaning muscle, fascial meaning connective tissue) trigger point therapy. Trigger point therapy is sometimes regarded as one of a group of treatment approaches called neuromuscular therapy or NMT.

Graston Tools

The Graston Technique is a form of manual therapy known as soft-tissue instrument-assisted mobilization. The therapy is designed to help the practitioner identify areas of restriction and attempt to break up scar tissue. The general goals of the therapy are to reduce the patient’s pain and increase function through a combination of:

  • Breaking down the scar tissue and fascia restrictions that are usually associated with some form of trauma to the soft tissue (e.g., a strained muscle or a pulled ligament, tendon, or fascia).
  • Reducing restrictions by stretching connective tissue in an attempt to rearrange the structure of the soft tissue being treated (e.g., muscle, fascia, tendons, ligaments).

Neuromuscular Reeducation

Neuromuscular reeducation represents a series of therapeutic techniques to restore normal function of nerves and muscles, to include movement, balance, coordination, decreased kinesthetic sense, and impaired proprioception.  Basically, these are exercises that help give you back mental and physical control over your muscular system and is very similar to Rehabilitation exercises.

Kinesio Taping

The Kinesio Taping is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting. It has been proven to have positive physiological effects on the skin, lymphatic and circulatory system, fascia, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints.

The tape used is latex free and wearable for 2 – 4 days at a time and can be worn in the shower and through vigorous exercise routines.

Rehab

Sports Injury Rehabilitation helps athletes effectively treat pain and return to normal function. We emphasize the importance of early injury recognition and treatment.

In conjunction with receiving a course of treatment, specific strengthening and flexibility exercises will be implemented. Progressive exercises are included in rehabilitation programs to ensure the injury site returns to a fully functional state.

We provide care that is unique to each individual patient. We work closely with any other doctors or care providers you use in order to create a balanced and beneficial recovery plan.

Nutrition

Take charge of your health. Your nutritional health is one of the easiest ways to be healthy and feel better.  Deleting unhealthy foods and introducing healthier options can do more than just help you lose weight, it can reduce inflammation in the body, and allow your body to heal better and faster. That’s what we are after here at the ChiroFactor.

Many people think that being on a “diet” means they have to feel hungry all the time and can’t have all foods they enjoy.  This is not the way we look at nutrition.  We look at more than just the actual foods you are eating, or not eating, we consider emotional factors, daily lifestyle, your personal and individual needs and wants.
